Melissa & Jon’s love couldn’t wait for Covid to pass! As soon as Babylon Town Hall reopened, they rushed in to get their marriage license and immediately scheduled their wedding ceremony in the gazebo.
It was a hot, humid day, with the sun smiling intensely upon the couple and their small gathering of immediate family. We all wore our masks – except the bride and groom, and proceeded as usual, capturing the lovely ceremony, followed by a bridal portrait session there in the park.
Is this the new norm for now in a semi-post-covid Long Island? We were hit hard at first, but now have some of the lowest numbers in the country. Many couples, forced to abandon their big wedding plans, have now shifted gear and are getting married at town halls and in backyards all over Long Island.
Just because you can’t go big on the wedding, doesn’t mean you have to go small on the photography! Shrinking the party doesn’t mean you have to shrink the images! As a small wedding photography specialist, intimate weddings have always been my preference. There’s something about them that seems to focus more on the love than the party. Getting hung up on the massive amount of details that go into a huge celebration can be extremely stressful on the couple, often resulting in bridezilla and groomzilla behavior. I’ve found that my intimate wedding couples are much more relaxed and tend to just go with the flow and really enjoy their day. They haven’t spent two years stressing over details, so when things don’t go quite as planned, they don’t panic because their not as deeply invested in the pre-planning of each moment.
I think we’re going to see a change in the future, with more couples opting for intimate weddings, long after covid is a distant memory. After sheltering in place all these months, we’ve come to realize what’s truly most important in life. We’ve stopped to smell the roses and take a moment to determine our real priorities. Perhaps more couples will be inclined to want to focus more on the marriage than on the wedding. Putting together a wedding in a few weeks becomes a fun thing to do, rather than a two year side-job. And think of the money saved that might be more enjoyed in other ways!
Your wedding is just one day in your life. It should be fun, love-filled, and stress free! Over the decades, as you look at your beautiful portraits on the walls and flip through your gorgeous wedding album each anniversary, you’ll be reliving the cherished moments of your wedding and remembering how special that day was. The most important people were by your side, celebrating your love… simply… beautifully!
