We’re entering the fall and covid is still among us here on Long Island, although at this point, we’re more precautionary than still deep in battle – hard hit as we were. All the couples that had big wedding plans, have either postponed or scaled back. Paola & Brett decided that the show must go on!
We started out in a local Suffolk church, then it was on to the Westbury Manor. Opting to keep everything on a smaller scale, the couple decided to forego the reception photography and instead chose to do the formals in the garden at the manor. With the very strange covid rule that one is not allowed to dance, even 6′ apart with a mask on, (Yet it’s ok to sit directly next to one another, unmasked to eat??? Hmmmm…) there wasn’t going to be an opportunity for all the lively fun shots on the dance floor, so they decided to go for the just the church and the outdoor formals.
Most couples are going for the basics now on coverage, choosing to photograph just the ceremony and formals, and skipping the reception – as many will be having the big party at a later date, once covid has blown over.
This is a wise decision, as it’s smarter to invest the extra money into prints and albums, that will be cherished for a lifetime, rather than going for more hours of photographic coverage, when people are at a sit-down dinner and not much is happening that’s photo worthy.
I always encourage my clients to opt for quality over quantity & prints over extra shooting time. I’ve found that whether I’m shooting for 2 hours or 6 hours, it doesn’t seem to change the size of the print order! I can still make a gorgeous custom designed album from a 1-2 hour event! Most of the candids never make it into the album anyway – so why pay for all that extra time, when at this point, there’s no dancing and mingling, where the fun candids are usually grabbed?
I’m all about helping my clients find the right balance of time and prints, so they get the most value for their money. 🙂
