You’ve probably heard about photographers around the country doing drive-by shootings… normally a horrifying phrase, but these days, a cute and safe way to do a family portrait session while maintaining social distancing – where permitted.
These sessions have become quite controversial amongst professional photographers because, although it sounds like a nice, safe way to do a session during the pandemic, it’s actually illegal to do so locally, at a time when the rule in states like New York is “No gatherings of any size for ANY reason. Shelter in home and only go outdoors for essential errands or for SOLO exercise.”. All non-essential businesses are to remain shut until the governor of each state gives the go-ahead to proceed with Phase I federal guidelines. Photography services look like they fall under Phase II guidelines.
Nassau and Suffolk counties, being among the hardest hit in the country, will lag behind not only the rest of the country, but the rest of NY state. Some upstate areas have qualified for Phase I reopening, but at the moment, Long Island still sits in need of meeting two more of the pieces that will allow for our Phase I opening. Two weeks after that, Phase II will begin if the standards are met at that time – and that means I will be able to actually start photographing again – at least outdoors! YAY!!
Initially, sessions will need to be done outdoors, so it’s a great time for finally being able to provide you with those “Porch Portraits”, where we can safely social distance, but you ‘ll be able to take those masks off to show those pretty smiles!
We are now offering sessions with tentative dates, subject to change according to the regulations in place at the time the session date arrives. Since we’ve not yet opened for Phase I, and Phase II doesn’t come for at least two weeks after that, we’re probably looking at mid June for potential reopening.
So, for all those special life events that were missed, we’re going to have to make up for a lot of postponed sessions! Reserve a tentative date now for…

- Family Pictures, including “Porch Portraits”
- Seashore Sessions
- Portraits in the Park
- Etc.
You can book your tentative date, which will be dependent upon regulations at the time, and may need to be rescheduled accordingly. As a booked client, you will receive priority consideration in date selection, over new clients first booking at that time, should we be required by regulations to change your session date.
