The newborn stage is so very special, and so very short! It won't be long until that sleepy little one fills out, chubbies up, and becomes a coo-ing, smiley full-fledged bouncing baby girl or boy ... a whole new amazing stage that lasts throughout the first year. Be sure to schedule baby portrait sessions for 3mo, 6mo, 9mo, and then their first birthday Cake Smash session too, that capture the priceless memories of the first year in your baby's life!

Newborn sessions can take place in Jo Anne's studio, or if you're local to Long Island, you may choose a home session. Ideally, you should plan your newborn session for 8-14 days after birth. Don't panic if your baby is already past that - we'll just have to get you in right away. The younger your baby, the more sleepy and easy to work with, for his or her first baby portraits.

Jo Anne isn't fond of those over-stylized newborn shots that have been the rage. Besides looking unnatural, and more about the props & set than the actual baby, those sessions can actually be quite dangerous and put your baby at risk! Baby's necks are often bent at uncomfortable, awkward angles that make Jo Anne cringe, as she is so very portective of her littlest clients! Many photographers are not aware that those images are composites, made from several different shots where baby is supported properly, then the separate images are pieced together to hide the supports. Ignorantaly, they attempt these poses as a single image, putting the baby in great danger of serious injury! Jo Anne would never put your baby at risk! Your sweet little one will still look absolutely precious, in Jo Anne's safe and comfortable poses.

Personalize with Props

Jo Anne doesn't care for cliche' sets other photographers use over and over again for every client. Your baby is a unique individual, as is your personal family style, so each session is unique. Here, baby is sleeping peacefully on Grandma's hand made blanket, along with a nod to Police Officer Daddy. Be sure to bring along some props that have special meaning to you and your family - an heirloom rattle, a hand-made teddy bear, etc., to make these amazing images as special and unique as your baby!

"Not Quite Newborn" Portraits

This precious little lady missed the 8-14 days-old window for her first portraits, and came for her baby session at 4 weeks old. As you can see, she's wide awake and looking right at the camera! LOL! Although we can't do all the newborn poses that require a sleeping baby, it doesn't mean we can't get absolutely priceless images of your little one while they're still tiny.

Classic Baby Pictures

This little guy in a classic baby pose, is timeless! There's never a wrong time to photograph your baby! This first year flies by so very quickly. Jo Anne recommends scheduling baby portraits for 3, 6, 9, 12, and 18 months, and then an annual birthday session each year after that. Some parents like to order a "Brag Book" of images after each session, and others choose to create a formal album at the end of the first year, including images from all the sessions from newborn to 1st birthday Cake Smash. The choice is yours. You buy what you love, with no pressure at all.

Stages & Ages Baby Portraits

Once your cutie-pie is sitting up, it's definitely time to schedule another baby portrait session! This is a huge milestone that you'll want to preserve and cherish for a lifetime! This little guy wasn't interested in anyones antics, trying to get him to smile. Jo Anne gentle tossed him his lil' pair of socks and he played and played and played with them, with this beaming smile on his face! The images were so irristable that the parents just couldn't figure out a favorite one for the wall, so Jo Anne created a custom 9 image framed collage to feature the series!

1st Birthday Cake-Smash Photo Sessions

The first year of baby's "Life in Fine Art"© isn't complete without a cake smash session to close out the year in photos! We can add this on to your baby's one year portrait session, or make a special session just for the cake smash. Due to allergies and food sensitivities, Jo Anne finds it's best to have the parents provide the cake that is best for their baby, and your personal style... from cupcake to ornate party cake. Include some of the decorations from baby's birthday party to customize the look of the session and tie in with your birthay party photography, and you've got a year in photos that will be treasured for a lifetime, and passed from generation to generation as your legacy!
